De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde-La Salle Green Hills preserved its unbeaten run so far in the NCAA Season 101 juniors basketball after escaping Emilio Aguinaldo College, 91-89, on Saturday at the Filoil Centre.
The Greenies unleashed a 10-1 closing run behind Josef Calo-oy and Jaime Hizon to complete the victory and improve to 2-0 in Group B while the Brigadiers fell to 0-1 to open their campaign.
Benilde-LSGH, who is eager to bounce back from a finals heartbreak last season, found itself down by seven late in the fourth period after Clint Bonus sank a jumper that sent EAC to an 88-81 lead.
But the Greenies fought back with Brandon Yutuc knocking down a jumper and Calo-oy burying a huge three-pointer off a Hizon assist to trim the gap to two, 88-86, in the final 1:56.
Hizon then completed a layup before Patrick Pasinos scored a layup of his own to give the Greenies a slim on-point cushion, 90-89, with only 23 ticks to go.
Camillio Jugo then split his freebies to seal the win as the Greenies remained unbeaten in two games.
Calo-oy top-scored with 25 points together with two rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block while Jugo and Hizon chipped in 15 and 13 markers each.
The loss spoiled Bonus’ 26 points, three rebounds, one assists, two steals, and one block. Kelly Coronel and Bonus chimed in with 15 and 12 markers apiece.
