MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines’ Riza Pasuit and Ronald Chavez, Jr. pulled off contrasting wins to launch their respective campaigns within the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, England Saturday.
Pasuit overwhelmed Saudi Arabia’s Ragad Alnaimi with a second-round RSC (referee stopped contest) victory that catapulted the Southeast Asian Video games silver medalist straight to the round-of-16 of the ladies’s 60-kilogram class.
The 26-year-old Chavez, in the meantime, needed to overcome a late, livid problem of Irishman Matthew McCole for a detailed win on factors, 3-2, within the males’s 70kg class.
But it surely wasn’t all rainbows because the nation suffered its first casualty following Junmilardo Ogayre’s 5-0 defeat by the hands of Kazakhstan’s Biibars Zhexen within the males’s 60kg round-of-32.
