Reigning IBF world minimumweight champion Pedro Taduran expects Ginjiro Shigeoka to run around the ring when they meet in a rematch on May 24 at Intex Osaka in Japan.
Taduran (17-4-1, 13KOs) defeated Shigeoka in their first meeting via technical knockout. This time, however, Taduran believes the Japanese learned his lesson and would not trade anymore.
“We are planning for the fight because we think our opponent is going to run. We are going to do something about it in the fight,” Taduran said.
Because of this, Taduran’s coach Carl Peñalosa made sure they have strategies in place in enemy territory since going to the scorecards is a bad idea.
“I think our opponent would not want to engage. He is going to run. He is going to punch then move so we have a Plan A, B, and C,” Peñalosa added.
“If we go twelve rounds then we are in danger. Our target is to get a knockout.”
