Arjay Ramos and Barbie San Andres flexed their offensive might anew to tow Mapua University past Jose Rizal University, 19-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-18, on Saturday in the NCAA Season 100 men’s volleyball tournament at the EAC Sports and Cultural Center in Manila.
The Cardinals bucked a slow start and recovered quickly to take the four-set win as they improved to 13-2 and boosted their chances for a Final Four slot.
The fourth set was a tight one as the two teams went neck-and-neck, tying the set at 13 before the Intramuros crew pulled away, thanks to the efforts led by Ramos and San Andres, with Jayvee Valenzuela’s service ace sealing the win for the Cardinals.
Ramos and San Andres had 22 points apiece, while Olsen Jamisola added 12 points for Mapua as they bounced back after losing to San Beda University last May 4.
Harry Jim Ocay had 13 points, while Paolo Barrientos added 12 points for the Heavy Bombers who moved down to 3-12.
On Tuesday, Mapua will take on San Sebastian College-Recoletos, while JRU will go against San Beda University.
