Qualcomm has announced the launch date of the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor.
To recap, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor was first announced together with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC. Now, Qualcomm is gearing up to launch the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor on November 26 in China.
The chip is anticipated to be a high-performance chipset, positioned within Qualcomm’s high-end product lineup, and just below the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is built on a 3nm process and incorporates the firm’s custom Oryon CPU architecture. Its prime core clocks at 3.8GHz, while its performance cores operate at 3.32GHz.
In comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5’s prime and performance cores have a maximum clock speed of 4.6GHz and 3.62GHz, respectively.
Reports also surfaced online indicating that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will have a 2 + 6 configuration and will use the Adreno 840 GPU, but won’t be as powerful as the Elite’s GPU. Benchmark figures for the chipset include an AnTuTu score exceeding 3.3 million points, while around 3,000 points in single-core testing and around 10,000 points in multi-core testing on Geekbench 6. The chip’s GPU will also allegedly deliver about 100 frames per second on the Aztec 1440p benchmark.
The OnePlus Ace 6T will be the first device to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which is set to launch in November. The vivo S50 Pro Mini will also feature the new chipset and is expected to debut in December.
HONOR will also implement the upcoming processor on its GT 2 smartphone, which is expected to launch between December and January, according to reports.
