A sense of excitement and anticipation is building among Filipino priests in Rome as they prepare for a special audience with Pope Leo XIV. Scheduled for June 12 at the Vatican’s Paul VI Hall, this gathering marks the Pope’s first official meeting with priests currently serving in the Diocese of Rome since his election to the papacy in May.
Rev. Gregory Ramon Gaston, rector of the Pontificio Collegio Filippino, shared that around 100 Filipino priests are expected to attend. These priests are not only serving in various parishes but are also pursuing advanced studies in theology, philosophy, canon law, and other fields related to the Church’s mission. Their work in Rome reflects the deep commitment of the Filipino clergy to both spiritual service and academic excellence.
Rev. Gaston expressed the collective excitement of the group, noting, “We’re very excited because we will finally have an audience with the Holy Father, Pope Leo.” For many of these priests, the meeting is a rare opportunity to connect personally with the Pope, share their experiences, and seek guidance as they continue their ministry far from home.
The event also highlights the strong presence and contribution of Filipino priests within the global Catholic community, particularly in Rome, where they support both the local Filipino population and the broader Church. The upcoming meeting is expected to be a meaningful moment of unity, inspiration, and spiritual renewal for all who attend.
