Philippine Gold Diving Docu Gets International Emmy 2025 Nod

Philippines: Diving for Gold, a 36-minute French documentary that looks at the world of child gold divers in the Philippines, has been nominated for an International Emmy Award under the Current Affairs category. The nomination was announced by the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS), which runs the annual awards.

In its official synopsis, IATAS describes the film: “The Philippines has vast deposits of gold. But much of it is mined by children. They alone are slender enough to dive deep into self-dug tunnels, through swamps, or down to the seabed. The highly dangerous undertaking puts their lives at risk.”

Produced by European public broadcaster ARTE in partnership with Asia-based French outfit Keyi Productions, Philippines: Diving for Gold is currently available to watch for free on ARTE’s YouTube channel.

The documentary joins three other nominees in the Current Affairs race: “Kill Zone: Inside Gaza” from the British documentary program Dispatches; “Enforced Disappearances” from Brazil’s Repórter Record Investigação; and Walk the Line from Singapore-based CNA Insider.

Winners will be announced on Monday, November 24, at the 2025 International Emmy Awards in New York City.
