MANILA, Philippines — Oona Insurance Philippines has teamed up with electric vehicle maker Tesla to offer a year of free comprehensive insurance for every new Model Y vehicle purchased and delivered in the country.
Under the partnership, Tesla buyers who purchase the said model between Oct, 1 and Nov. 26 will automatically receive insurance coverage from Oona Insurance.
“Coverage begins upon vehicle release and remains valid for 12 months, with Tesla facilitating policy activation in partnership with Oona Insurance to ensure a smooth and secure handover from purchase to protection,” the insurance company said.
Oona Insurance said the partnership highlights both the companies’ commitment to strengthening the country’s electric vehicle ecosystem and encouraging Filipino drivers to adopt electric mobility with reliable insurance protection, noting that Tesla is the leading battery electric vehicle market with more than 1,800 units sold.
Oona Insurance CEO Ninoy Rollan said electric vehicles present a distinct risk profile, adding that they are focused on tailoring its pricing and repair partnerships to ensure insurance protection keeps pace with technological advancements.
“Insuring an electric vehicle is not just about tapping into a trend, it is about enabling a more sustainable future through insurance that is as innovative as the cars themselves,” Rollan said.
Data of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. and the Truck Manufacturers Association showed that electric vehicle sales reached over 18,000 units from January to August.
