MANILA, Philippines — Five-star integrated resort Okada Manila is going greener this year, with plans to enhance its energy efficiency efforts and expand the use of renewable power in its operations.
Okada Manila president and COO Byron Yip said the gaming and leisure hub intends to advance its initiatives in waste management, energy efficiency and water conservation.
These efforts, he said, include scaling up the use of renewable energy and harnessing artificial intelligence to optimize energy consumption.
Okada Manila also plans to increase its single-use plastic recycling efforts, cut food waste and bolster greywater recycling capacity.
“Through focused efforts, we reaffirm our commitment to climate action, social equity and the well-being of future generations,” Yip said.
With its Okada Green Heart Program, the premier integrated resort has also aligned its efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Yip said Okada Manila is focused on sustaining the momentum and progress achieved in 2024 by deepening its dedication to environmental responsibility.
Last year, Okada Manila rolled out its first electric vehicle charging stations and reduced its energy use by switching to 100 percent LED lighting.
It has also put up smart, energy-saving systems across guest rooms and back-of-house areas.
Further, the luxury resort also reported recycling over 1.37 million plastic bottles and diverting more than 14,000 kilos of plastic packaging waste.
These initiatives were essential not only in advancing Okada Manila’s sustainability push but also in “setting new benchmarks in gaming, leisure and entertainment,” Yip said.
“Together, we will build a brighter, more sustainable future – one that upholds the values of humility, teamwork, and creativity that define Okada Manila,” he said.
Okada Manila is the first integrated resort in the Philippines to obtain the Forbes Verified Responsible Hospitality badge, which recognizes its environmentally conscious practices.
The badge demonstrates that luxury properties like Okada Manila adhere to clearly defined standards for protecting the environment without compromising guest experience.
