New China, Philippine encounter in South China Sea

The Chinese coastguard has accused its Philippine counterpart of “unprofessional and dangerous” behaviour, after a “deliberate” collision in the South China sea near the disputed Sabina Shoal on August 19, 2024. State broadcaster Central China Television showed a video that appears to show a ship, identified as a Philippine vessel by the Chinese side, that apparently ran into the left side of a Chinese ship before moving on. Philippine authorities gave their own account of the incident, with the Assistant Director General of the Philippines’ National Security Council accusing the Chinese coastguard of provocative action.
