It takes a winning mindset to achieve a rare feat.
It is also what propelled Colegio de San Juan de Letran’s Vanessa Sarie to her career-high outing as she posted 37 points in the Lady Knights’ victory against Arellano University last Friday.
“Thank you talaga kay God kasi kung wala si God and ‘yung teammates ko and coaching staff namin, ‘di ko naman ‘to makukuha eh. Nandun lang ‘yung faith ko na kapag lumaban ako, lalaban din sila, makukuha namin ang panalo,” Sarie told GMA News Online.
Sarie and the Lady Knights turned emotional after the hard-fought win which head coach Oliver Almadro described as a “test of character.”
“I did not expect ‘yung score ko kasi ‘pag binigay ko bola, papaluin ko, ‘di ko inisip score. Nandun ako sa mindset na kailangan namin manalo, makakatulong ako sa ates ko,” she said.
Sarie made history as she broke the NCAA all-time scoring record previously held by San Beda University’s Angel Habacon (May 1, 2024) and San Sebastian College-Recoletos’ Grethcel Soltones (Jan. 24, 2014) at 36 points.
She also joined the ranks of NCAA’s elite scorers like University of Perpetual Help System DALTA’s Royse Tubino (Feb. 6, 2014) and Mary Rhose Dapol (April 20, 2024) who both had 35 points.
With the win, Letran also exacted revenge against Arellano who defeated them in the first round.
