MANILA, Philippines — A Grade 7 student’s Christmas party memory turned painful after he received a hollow block and a blouse as exchange gifts.
In a viral video uploaded on the Facebook channel “Carnice Fam’s Vlog,” the mother is heard calling her son’s adviser to report the apparent bullying her child was subjected to.
The mother showed the unwrapped Christmas exchange gift, which contained a hollow block and a pink blouse she estimated to be worth P50. Her son can be seen crying continuously in the background as she speaks with the class adviser about how the issue should be addressed.
The mother said in her interview with GMA Integrated News that her 12-year-old son has asthma and she does not even make him carry heavy objects because of his condition.
She recalled how excited he was to bring home his “heavy” gift, but the excitement turned into heartbreak when he opened it.
“Mama, natatanggap ko naman na bakla ako pero hindi ako nagsu-suot niyan,” the mother shared her son’s comment in her interview.
Her son’s class was instructed to prepare a P200 exchange gift for their Christmas party.
The mother said that when she met with the guardians of the student who gave the viral exchange gift, they apologized for the incident. They explained that they had only given their child money and were unaware of what he or she purchased.
“Nanghingi sila ng sorry pero wala naman kaming magagawa kundi tanggapin,” the mother said.
The mother said that her son is now happy after receiving a more thoughtful gift, with some online users also sending him additional presents after being moved by his story.
