Final Four-bound Arellano outlasts LPU behind Sam Tiratira, Pauline De Guzman

Final Four-bound Arellano University outlasted Lyceum of the Philippines University on Tuesday, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21, 16-25, 15-5, on Tuesday in the NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Centre in San Juan.

With the victory, the Lady Chiefs ended the elimination round with a 12-6 record, while the Lady Pirates slipped to 8-9 ahead of their penultimate game against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde on Friday.

The Lady Chiefs will have to wait for the result of the match between Mapua University and Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Wednesday to determine their placement in the semis.

After falling to the Lady Pirates in the fourth set, Arellano recovered and quickly mounted a 10-3 lead to claim the victory.

“Siyempre masaya kami dahil ‘yong target naming season is nakuha namin,” head coach Obet Javier said. “So sabi ko nga last time ‘yong makapasok muna kami sa Final Four, nakuha naman tapos saka kami na i-ta-target sa susunod.”

Sam Tiratira showcased her skill set anew with 18 points from 14 attacks, three blocks, and an ace, while Pauline De Guzman added 17 points anchored on 13 attacks.

Ashley Muchillas, meanwhile, had 20 points for LPU, while Johna Dolorito and and Joann De Guzman had 15 and 14 points, respectively.
