MANILA, Philippines — Factory gate prices rose at a faster rate in September from the previous month due mainly to the movement in transport equipment prices, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Data released by the PSA yesterday showed that the Producer Price Index (PPI) for manufacturing posted a one-percent uptick in September, faster than the 0.6 percent increase in August.
In September last year, the PPI declined by 1.4 percent.
From January to September, average PPI growth stood at 0.5 percent.
The PPI tracks the average change in the cost of manufactured goods when they leave a factory relative to a base period.
The PSA said the higher growth rate of the PPI for manufacturing in September “was primarily due to the upturn in the annual growth rate of the PPI for manufacture of transport equipment industry division at 1.6 percent in September 2025 from 0.2 percent annual decrease in August 2025.”
Also driving the faster PPI growth was the upturn in computer, electronic and optical products at 0.9 percent in September from the 0.1 percent dip in the previous month.
The PSA said the slower decline in other non-metallic mineral products at 2.2 percent in September from the previous month’s 3.9 percent was another contributor to the PPI growth.
Of the remaining 19 industry divisions, 13 exhibited increases, while six industry divisions registered decreases in September from the previous month.
Industry divisions that posted upticks in September were coke and refined petroleum products; food products; basic metals; chemical and chemical products; rubber and plastic products; tobacco products; wearing apparel; electrical equipment; furniture; leather and related products, including footwear; other manufacturing and repair and installation of machinery and equipment; textiles; and printing and reproduction of recorded media.
On the other hand, those which saw declines are machinery and equipment except electrical; beverages; paper and paper products; basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations; fabricated metal products; except machinery and equipment; and wood, bamboo, cane, rattan articles and related products.
