EJ Obiena wins third straight gold in Asian Athletics Championships

Filipino Olympian and pole vaulter EJ Obiena proved he’s nonetheless the king of Asian pole vault.

Obiena on Saturday dominated the boys’s pole vault occasion of the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea as he cleared 5.77 meters within the jump-off towards China’s Huang Bokai.

 

 

That is Obiena’s third straight gold within the Asian tourney after ruling it in 2019 in Dubai and 2023 in Bangkok.

The jump-off occurred as each pole vaulters cleared 5.72 meters in only one try, skipped 5.77, then failed in all three makes an attempt of the 5.82 mark. It was Obiena who cleared the 5.77-meter mark within the jump-off, handing Huang the silver medal.

Thailand’s Patsapong Amsamarng copped the bronze with 5.67 meters.

Obiena’s compatriot Hokett Delos Santos, in the meantime, positioned thirteenth as he cleared 4.97 meters.
