The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong said on Thursday it had not found any confirmed Filipino casualties in the large fire that hit a residential complex in Tai Po.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the consulate is still verifying information that some Filipinos might have been inside the buildings when the blaze began.
The DFA said responders in Hong Kong raised the alarm level to its highest category. Search and rescue operations continued as firefighters worked to contain the fire and check the affected blocks.
“The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong… has not received any confirmed reports of Filipinos killed or injured as a result of the Fire Alarm Level 5 at a residential complex in Tai Po,” the DFA said in its advisory.

“Unverified information reaching the Post that some Filipino Foreign Domestic Workers may be trapped inside the buildings has been immediately passed on to the authorities to possibly assist in the rescue and response efforts,” the department added.
Officials said confirmation may take time because of the size of the area and the continuing response.
The DFA stated further that the consulate said it remained in contact with the Hong Kong Police Force Liaison Bureau while preparing assistance for Filipinos once authorities complete their checks on the affected residents.
