SAN JUAN, La Union — Singer Jimmy Regino, a member of the April Boys group with two of his brothers, has passed away.
His younger brother and the remaining member of the group Vingo confirmed the news in an emotional video posted on Facebook.
“Pumanaw na ang aking kapatid na si Jimmy, hindi na natin maririnig ang boses niya,” said a solemn Vingo, reflecting on the difficulty of losing another loved one.
The most famous of the group April Boy, whose hits include “Di Ko Kayang Tanggapin” and “Ye Ye Vonnel,” passed away in 2020 aged 59 years old after a battle with chronic kidney disease and acute respiratory failure.
Vingo lamented being unable to process his feelings properly, going on to reference the April Boys song “Ganyan Talaga Ang Pag-Ibig”: “Alaala na iniwan mo, kapag naisip ko, nalulungkot ako.”
“Mahal na mahal ko yung kapatid ko. Masakit yung nangyari sa akin na mawalan ng kapatid. Para bang hinihintay na lang niya na magkita kami kahapon,” Vingo said, sharing that Jimmy was hospitalized but did not share the reason why.
The singer reiterated how hard it was to lose a loved one, ending with a wave, “Isa na namang April Boys ang nawala sa atin.”
April Boys, Jimmy and Vingo formed the April Boys in 1993 but the former departed the group two years later to pursue a solo career.
Jimmy and Vingo carried on as a duo until 2004 before disbanding, then reunited with April Boy in 2020 before his passing.
In 2023, Jimmy and Vingo briefly joined April Boy’s son JC, who also became a part of the group, to release new music.
Apart from “Ganyan Talaga Ang Pag-Ibig,” the April Boys are known for the songs “Honey My Love (So Sweet),” “Ikaw Pa Rin Ang Mamahalin,” “Sana Ay Mahalin Mo Rin Ako,” “Tunay Na Pag-Ibig” and “Pag-Ibig Kong Litong-Lito.”
