AMD and OpenAI have announced a partnership to build large-scale AI infrastructure using AMD’s Instinct GPUs.
Under the agreement, OpenAI will use AMD hardware for future AI systems, beginning with the MI450 series and continuing with newer generations.
Both companies will collaborate on hardware and software development to improve performance and efficiency in large-scale AI operations.
Also, as part of the partnership, AMD granted OpenAI a warrant for up to 160 million AMD shares. The shares will vest in stages based on deployment milestones, AMD’s share price targets, and OpenAI’s progress in expanding AMD-based infrastructure.
AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su said the partnership aims to deliver AI computing “at massive scale.” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman added that AMD’s high-performance chips will help speed up the development and availability of advanced AI systems.
AMD expects the collaboration to bring in “tens of billions of dollars” in revenue over time and to contribute positively to its earnings.
