Alex Eala to commence French Open run vs Colombia’s Arango

Alex Eala will make her French Open main draw debut on Sunday (Philippine time) when she takes on Colombia’s Emiliana Arango in the first round of the women’s singles tournament.

Arango, 24 years old, is currently ranked 88th by the Women’s Tennis Association. The 19-year old Filipina ace, meanwhile, recently moved up to her career-high ranking at 69.

This will mark Eala’s first appearance in the main draw as she absorbed a third round exit in last year’s qualifying draw.

Playing in the Roland Garros, however, is not new for Eala as she won the juniors doubles trophy back in 2021 with Oksana Selekhmeteva.

Eala has been making waves in international tennis lately, especially after her dream run in the Miami Open where she defeated Grand Slam champions like Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek en route to the semis where she lost to Jessica Pegula.

In Madrid, however, Eala fell to Swiatek in the Round of 64.

In the Italian Open just days ago, Eala partnered with Coco Gauff to compete in the doubles where they reached the quarterfinals.
