Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala and her partner Renata Zarazua of Mexico advanced to the second round of the French Open women’s doubles tournament.
Eala and Zarazua defeated the pair of United Kingdom’s Emily Appleton and Spain’s Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers, 7-5, 6-4, on early Wednesday (Philippine time).
After a tight first set, the pair of Eala and Zarazua led 3-1 in the second set before the two pairs were tied 4-4. The Eala-Zarazua duo, however, eventually recovered en route to the victory.

The 20-year old Eala is ranked no. 73 in singles, while the 27-year old Zarazua is world no. 74.
Recently, Eala fell short against Colombia’s Emiliana Arango in the first round of the women’s singles tourney.
