MANILA, Philippines — Aboitiz Power Corp. has switched on another large-scale solar plant in Pangasinan, this time a 92.55-megawatt-peak (MWp) installation in the municipality of San Manuel.
The San Manuel plant is the third solar facility operated by AboitizPower unit Aboitiz Renewables Inc. in the province, joining the 94-MWp Cayanga-Bugallon and the 159-MWp Laoag projects.
This is also the sixth solar project completed by Aboitiz Renewables, further expanding its clean energy portfolio.
“This marks another important step in our renewable energy (RE) expansion. Pangasinan’s strong solar potential and available grid connections make it ideal for solar development,” Aboitiz Renewables president Jimmy Villaroman said.
AboitizPower, the country’s largest generation company in terms of capacity, is positioning solar at the forefront of its RE expansion.
“In terms of growth initiative and growth numbers, this (solar) is the frontrunner right now,” Aboitiz Renewables Inc. VP and general manager for solar and wind operations Leo Lungay said.
With a robust project pipeline, Lungay added that the company continues to seek potential opportunities in the solar power space.
Recently, Aboitiz Renewables secured the final certificate of approval for the grid integration of its 173-MWp Calatrava Solar project in Negros Occidental, making it one of the largest of its kind in the Visayas.
In Luzon, the company is awaiting grid access for its fully completed 221-MWp Olongapo Solar project in Zambales.
On top of these projects, AboitizPower is also seeking a key environmental clearance to develop the P7.6-billion Olongapo Solar Phase 2.
These solar investments complement AboitizPower’s broader target of achieving a balanced mix of conventional and renewable power sources by 2030.
AboitizPower, through Aboitiz Renewables, has more than 1,000 MW of RE projects in the pipeline.
